September and October are usually busy times for recruits to take official visits for football games, etc., before their own basketball season starts. And the summer AAU circuit is over. So I figured it was time to really dig deep to see who PSU is still after.
We’ll start off with our first visitor (as far as I know) this weekend. 6’2″ Guard Tim Frazier from Houston, TX. I’ve seen him listed as a Combo Guard, but mostly a Point Guard. He’s rated a ‘3-star’ recruit by both services. There have been boasts of his speed and defensive prowess. Texashoops.com had an article a few weeks ago and quoted Frazier as saying, “The most important thing is education as I want to get the best education possible. The second thing is getting to play against great competition and playing against great guys. I want to grow as a player and develop as a player.” Seems like PSU could be a player. He has scholarship offers from Colorado State, Santa Clara, Stanford, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Boise State, Penn State, Princeton, Harvard and Yale. He really likes Penn State, Stanford, Colorado State, Stephen F Austin, and any of the Ivy League schools. Be sure to keep an eye on him.
Evan Gordon, Eric’s brother, also has interest in us. He’s also a 6’2″ G. He’s obviously not has talented as his bro, but he has had interest from big time programs. He said to Rivals.com back in July that he would ‘likely’ visit us in August. As far as I know, that hasn’t happened. There haven’t been any updates on his situation. He does have offers from Xavier and Butler. It’s unknown to me at least, if he has been offered by us. He has also listed Miami FL and Indiana as schools recruiting him.
Scout.com claims that we’ve offered 6’3″ G Marcus Jordan, Michael’s son. But surprisingly, it’s tough to find out news about his recruitment. Rivals has no mention of us. But one thing seems to be true. He is a legit high major prospect. Hopefully more news about him will surface in the future.
Ethan Wragge, 6’6″ F from Eden Prairie, MN, is visiting the Illinois weekend. He’s visited Creighton and has said he will also visit Marquette. He is also talking to Michigan and Minnesota. He’s pretty high on Creighton and Marquette…I hope he makes it to our visit.
Bill Edwards Jr, a 6’5″ 225 F from Middletown OH, has also been offered by us. His coach has said we and Miami OH have been talking to him the longest. He sounded like a Redhawk lean since his cousin and high school teammate had already committed to them. However, with Drew McGhee’s commitment, their class is full. He might be out of luck at that school. So hopefully that puts us in a great position, but I get the feeling that the interest isn’t mutual. He’s been offered by UMass, Kent State, Virginia and Miami FL, also. Oklahoma State and Michigan are apparently ‘on the fringe’ of offering.
Jake Cohen is a 6’10” C out of Berwyn, PA (close to Philly). He was on campus for the Indiana upset last year and has been offered. He’s also interested in Michigan, Northwestern, and La Salle. NW loaded up on posts recently, so they are probably out of the equation. We have a solid shot at him. The main concern with Cohen is that he’s a twig and needs to build up some strength.
These 5 guys are prospects that I know we are seriously after. We should have a shot at some of these guys. Keep in mind we still have 4 scholarships available for the class of 2009.
